Academic Support

Academic support is built into the schedule for every Long View student.

Academic Intervention Period

Every day, students participate in an academic intervention period during which they can make up missing work, finish incomplete work and revise assignments to demonstrate mastery of skills. These periods are supported by teachers who actively assist students with their work during this time.

In a traditional study hall, students do not often receive the same level of support that they do in the classroom. In Long View’s academic intervention period, students can get additional instruction on topics they are struggling with or receive direct assistance with completing work. This helps prevent students from having gaps in understanding challenging topics.

Student Support Plan

If a student begins to fail their classes, a student support plan may be created in collaboration with their family. A support plan may look like modifying the student’s schedule, assigning the Long View Learning Lab, or building in additional classroom supports.

Student support plans are designed to be collaborative with the student, Long View staff and the family, working together to promote the student’s ability to achieve their educational goals. Students don’t have to be perfect, they just need to take responsibility for their learning.

Condensed Schedule

Long View utilizes a modified and condensed grading schedule to ensure academic success. Instead of taking six to eight classes every 18-week semester, we condense our classes and grading terms so that students take only three classes at a time for a nine-week grading term. Credit for classes is awarded every nine weeks (every quarter) and then students are enrolled in a new set of three classes.

With this model, Long View students can earn the same amount of Jeffco high school credit throughout the year as a neighborhood high school student while taking fewer classes at a time. This pacing provides students and teachers the opportunity to dive deeper into authentic learning in the classroom without having to juggle an overwhelming amount of content and coursework from other classes.

No Homework

Hold onto your seats – Long View does not assign homework. All work is expected to be completed at school where learning can be supported by a teacher. This means that attendance is integral to a student’s success. See the Attendance page for more information.

Credit Recovery

Many students face challenges. Credit recovery at Long View helps students get back on track.
